Description
Burstarse Falls is a 50 foot plunge of water in the Castle Crags Wilderness, just off the Pacific Crest Trail. This waterfall flows mostly due to snow melt, and therefore is best visited in late spring, after the snow has melted on the trail, but before the summer sun has slowed the creek to a trickle. While not a terribly long hike from the nearest road, the trail is very steep and unstable in places, thus contributing to the name of this waterfall and the creek of the same name. My visit to this peaceful and serene place was in late April when the falls would normally be more voluminous, but in this particularly dry year, the flow was very light and wispy. Still, it is a beautiful and secluded place, well worth the sometimes precarious access.
