Artist's Description
Moments before the sun goes completely behind the horizon, lenticular clouds over Mount Shasta light up with the warm glow of the last moments of daylight. Lake Siskiyou provides a calm, mirror-like surface to reflect the scene. A few minutes later, the color would fade and darkness would fall upon the lake, signalling an end to another day. These moments in time are, to me, what photography is all about. One sixteenth of one second of eternity, captured forever and preserved for all who were not fortunate enough to be there. Life is a series of moments, a catalog of memories. As a photographer, it is my privelege to save a few of these moments and return to them again and again only to be transported back in time while remaining in the present. It is my wish that in some small way, viewing this image will transport you to that time and place and you will be able to share in the experience.
About Loree Johnson
Loree Johnson is a nature photographer and passionate advocate for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and wildlife habitat. She discovered a love for photography late in life at the age of 50 while living in Yreka, California. The desire to travel and document nature induced her to take an early retirement from a tedious desk job and go on the road. During her travels through the Western U.S. for six years (2014-2020) she collected a wealth of rewarding experiences and unique photographs. She volunteered for several National Wildlife Refuges along the way. Loree experiences profound joy in nature, and believes that all people should have the opportunity to experience it, too.
