Artist's Description
Burney Falls at MacArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park in northern California. The park brochure says "while not the highest waterfall in Callifornia, it may be the most beautiful." Burney Falls is a spectacular 129 ft. waterfall where over 100 million gallons per day of spring water falls into Burney Creek. Since most of the water comes from underground springs, the flow stays relatively constant year-round. Approximately halfway between Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta, this park is a very popular stop along the Volcanic Legacy National Scenic Byway. Burney Falls was named after pioneer settler Samuel Burney who lived in the area in the 1850s. The park is the second oldest state park in California and ecompasses 910 acres. This is an image from the waterfall overlook where you can see the falls from above.
About Loree Johnson
Loree Johnson is a nature photographer and passionate advocate for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and wildlife habitat. She discovered a love for photography late in life at the age of 50 while living in Yreka, California. The desire to travel and document nature induced her to take an early retirement from a tedious desk job and go on the road. During her travels through the Western U.S. for six years (2014-2020) she collected a wealth of rewarding experiences and unique photographs. She volunteered for several National Wildlife Refuges along the way. Loree experiences profound joy in nature, and believes that all people should have the opportunity to experience it, too.
