This image is part of the artist's specially selected Premium Collection of distinctive images. A small section of Mossbrae Falls in northern California with sunlight illuminating the water. Mossbrae Falls is a spring-fed waterfall on the Sacramento River near Dunsmuir, CA. The water flows year round over the moss-covered hillside. The entire waterfall is approximately 150 feet wide and the highest section is approximately 50 feet high. As a result, there are many streams of water flowing into the river, giving the appearance of hundreds of waterfalls. This waterfall is just downstream from the once popular Shasta Springs Resort of the early 1900's. Before automobiles became the main mode of travel in this area, visitors would come by train to relax and play in the sparkling mountain water. The resort closed and fell into decay when the highway was built and bypassed this section of the Sacramento River Canyon.
Loree Johnson is a nature photographer and passionate advocate for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and wildlife habitat. She discovered a love for photography late in life at the age of 50 while living in Yreka, California. The desire to travel and document nature induced her to take an early retirement from a tedious desk job and go on the road. During her travels through the Western U.S. for six years (2014-2020) she collected a wealth of rewarding experiences and unique photographs. She volunteered for several National Wildlife Refuges along the way. Loree experiences profound joy in nature, and believes that all people should have the opportunity to experience it, too.
