"Shasta Morning" by Loree Johnson Photography. Join me for a peaceful sunrise at Shasta Valley Wildlife Area. Mount Shasta is reflected in Trout Lake, a haven for many species of waterfowl. The sky turns from dark to purple, then pink and orange, then finally golden as the sunlight makes it's way into the eastern sky. The birds are just beginning to stir, the air is chilly, and the water is calm. A beautiful way to start the day. No other humans are present at the lake this early in the morning, but there are many other living things around. On this morning a great blue heron, three northern harriers, a cooper's hawk, a jackrabbit, around twenty deer, and untold numbers of ducks, geese, and blackbirds are also enjoying the show. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful sunrise as much as I did.

Loree Johnson is a nature photographer and passionate advocate for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and wildlife habitat. She discovered a love for photography late in life at the age of 50 while living in Yreka, California. The desire to travel and document nature induced her to take an early retirement from a tedious desk job and go on the road. During her travels through the Western U.S. for six years (2014-2020) she collected a wealth of rewarding experiences and unique photographs.
