Description
"Haystack Creek and Bear Grass" by Loree Johnson Photography. Of the many water crossings on the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Haystack Creek may be the prettiest. The snowmelt cascades over layers of rock almost like stairsteps on its way to the Flathead River below. In this image, bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax) is blooming alongside the creek. One of the first wildflowers to bloom in the spring, bear grass is really not a grass at all, but a member of the lily family.
